The haff offers a special habitat for flora and fauna because of the mixture of salt and sweet water. Thus you find salt and sweet water fish species in the haff. The salt grassland, the beaches and the dunes around the haff belong to the areas that are especially important for the protection of species. The diversity of the habitats, the sheltered bays, the marsh areas and the large reed zones are highly important for birds. In the haff you find among other bird species several dozens of couples of the white-tailed eagle. Hundreds of thousands of ducks, geese, swans and cranes stop in the Oder delta at the time of bird migration in autumn and in spring. The Stettin haff and the entire Oder estuary belong to the most precious European river estuaries. Besides recreation for the human being it also offers a habitat to rare plants and animals. |
