The Lower Lausitz is considered to be Brandenburg’s sunniest region. The plain landscape is diversified because of the Spree and Neiße floodplains, the heath landscapes, the lakes and the forests. You only find hills of up to 180 m in Calau and Bucksche Switzerland and in the Kmehlen mountains. Besides the sound nature you immediately notice the brown coal mining which visibly marks the landscape with its mining areas and the already vegetated areas like the Lausitz lake area. You may experience the ice age in the Muskau Faltenbogen, which is an end moraine. It shows geological characteristics that are unique in Europe. A geopark is developed here that will stretch across parts of Brandenburg, Saxony and Poland. |
