The national park "Lower Oder Valley" is a 60 km long plain region between Hohensaaten in the south and Szczecin (Stettin) in the north. The 10,000-year-old history of this valley dates back to the Pomeranian stadium of the Vistula ice age. The nature preserve includes the national park Lower Oder Valley (10,500 ha), the natural preserve park Krajobrazowy Dolina Dolnej Odry (6,009 ha) and the Cedynska Park Krajobrazowy (30,000 ha). Here, every season has its attractions. While big flocks of geese and cranes move through the foggy lowland in autumn, silence prevails in cold winters under the pastures covered with frost and the almost soundless move of the ice on the river Oder. Upcoming spring attracts noisy flocks of birds to the floodplain. In the summertime the banks of the bayous impress with their adorable marsh and water plants flower splendour. |
