Lebuse Land

Lebuser Land

For a long time the name `Lebuse Land´ had disappeared from linguistic usage. One of the reasons for this was that this region represented a permanent ‘bone of contention’ to the rulers of the different eras. The ‘openness towards reforms’ of the respectively ruling political and national powers contributed to the fact that the name disappeared from the maps. As early as at the end of the 14th century, nobody talked any longer about the original ‘Lebuse Land’. It was then renamed in ‘Neumark’ and ‘Sternberg Land’. The Slav tribe of the Leubuzzi/Lebuse which was settling in the area gave its name to the region Lebus and later the city of Lebus. Due to its geographic, geological and climate conditions, the Lebuse Land has an excellent flora and fauna that still exists today, despite significant interferences. Many species that are threatened by extinction have a last habitat here. They are especially protected in the numerous nature reserves.
