The Oder-Neiße Cycle Path

The Oder-Neiße cycle path offers a vast variety of varying beautiful scenic views on its more than 630 km long way from the Iser Mountains to the Baltic Sea.

Following the course of two boundary rivers, a true paradise displayes itself to the bicycle tourist.

From the Iser Mountains, the origin of the river Neiße, following the course of the river, you bike through historically interesting towns and landscapes which belong to the most beautiful ones of Central Europe.

If you choose to start your tour at the origin of the river Neiße in the Czech town Nova Ves you will begin your tour with a border-crossing experience. Here, between the Iser Mountains and Upper Lusatia, the place where three countries meet, its not yet the wide river meadows which you will see, but you will experience age-old forests, solitary mountain villages and high plateaus which offer breathtaking views. If you wish to follow a river from its origin to its firth you couldn`t think of a better place to start. The long way, first along the River Neiße, then following the River Oder, is dominated by low river meadows in almost pristine nature. Large parts are protected areas, habitat of a fauna and flora which very seldomly can be found somewhere else. Way up north, in West Pommerania, the Oder-Neiße cycling path leaves the course of the river. Then you are welcomed by biking paths leading through tranquil forests and grassland, reaching the Szczecin Haff and then arriving at the Baltic Sea where you may enjoy a lot of bathing fun.

On this route you will come through historically interesting towns like Liberec, Zittau, Görlitz, Ostritz, Guben, Forst, Eisenhüttenstadt, Frankfurt (Oder), Lebus, Küstrin, Bad Freienwalde, Schwedt (Oder), Ueckermünde, Anklam and the seaside resort Ahlbeck. You will bike through beautiful landscapes like the Iser Mountains, the nature park Zittauer Mountains, Upper Lusatia Mountain region, Bad Muskau landscape park, Forst rose garden, Mittleres Odertal (middle Oder valley), with Oderbruch and national park Unteres Odertal (lower Oder valley). You will enjoy the West Pommerania landscape, the nature park Szczecin Haff and the nature park Usedom. Between the villages Forst and Guben you will pass a vast cratered landscape created by the former brown-coal opencast mining. Through the ongoing reclamation programme the ’Lusatian Lake Region’ is being formed here.

The Oder-Neiße line – that`s also the political borderline between Germany and Poland – a peaceful, connecting border. Recreation in this area offers many opportunities to meet the neighbours. The to and fro is no problem, on the contrary – experience Zgorzelec, the polish quarter of Görlitz or visit Slubice on the opposite riverside of Frankfurt (Oder). Here mutual culture has its home, new horizons are being opened! In Bad Muskau an outstanding landscape park, the "Fürst-Pückler-Park", is awaiting you. This renowned landscape park, with 2/3rd of its land on the polish side, belongs to the UNESCO world heritage. By making a little detour on the European Cycle Path R1 you can visit the national park ‘Warthemündung’, which is located next to Kostrzyn/ Küstrin, where the river Warthe flows into the river Oder. Or, visit the national park `Unteres Odertal’ which extends on both sides of the river Oder between Hohensaaten and Szczecin.

At the ending of the Oder-Neiße Cycle Path, which connects countries and people in the heart of Europe, you`ll find the nature parks of the Baltic Sea islands Usedom and Wollin, which are connected through a close partnership. At the delta of the rivers Oder and Peene, the "Stettiner Haff" circular bike route lets you experience the biggest haff of the Baltic Sea. The whole river network expands over 903 km².
